While visiting the Italian Alps, at a meditation retreat, I painted the scene outside my room, with the view of creating a needle felted Swiss landscape as a memory of my retreat. Armed with my watercolours I painted the view before me, over the border the Swiss Alps. As I painted the contours and shapes a figure appeared as if by magic, my interpretation of a seated monk taking in the magnificent vista. I like working this way, allowing the composition to flow and grow. At home, I painted the scene in wool, still allowing for freedom and play. I am really happy with this needle felted Swiss landscape piece, it was fun and successful. Framed size is 29cm x 24cm, actual felted area is 24cm x20cm.
