Vathi harbour Samos island in Greece is a piece of the view of the harbour, looking down from a vantage point whilst on a bus journey I quickly took a photograph knowing the scene would lend itself to being recreated in needle felt. Boats cling to the harbour walls, in the distance vessels head for the mouth of the harbour. I aimed to show the movement and the way the sunlight reflected on the sea. In the foreground, the buildings and trees have a three dimensional quality. I needle felted each house with an individual scale, wanting to show the houses were unique and varied with orange and terracotta rooves, clumped together in their small community. Vathi harbour Samos island measures 50cm x 50cm framed, the actual felted area is 30cm x 30cm.
